Everyone – members as well as non members – are welcome to start off the new year with our first training offering for 2012. Plan to attend the Wednesday February 8th, 2012 ESDA meeting with our friend Steve Gelman from Sharp Electronics. Steve will share information on the new 70 and 80″ AQUOS sets from Sharp as well how Sharp adapted touch screen technology to the new large screen sets. Steve also has the latest symptom fixes as well as updated industry initialization procedures.

The Midwest Summer Conference Website is now on line!

The Midwest Summer Conference will again be held at the Four Winds by Sheraton in Peoria, Illinois. Join us June 28,29,30 and July 1 for what promises to be another informative and enjoyable weekend of training and networking. This conference is run by SERVICERS for SERVICERS and provides and invaluable forum to share ideas, preview new programs and products and receive managerial and technical training that is so essential to business today. March Meeting

Plan now to attend the March 14th, 2012 ESDA meeting featuring our own Chairman George Weiss just back from the winter service summit with reports from around the service world. This plans to be an open “State of the Industry” forum to review and discuss the state of our industry, coming trends, etc.

ESDA Meets the second Wednesday of each month. Future programs in the works include a program on retail diversity opportunities, important consumer electronics safety issues, and more. Stay tuned for details.

Leo Edmund Cloutier (1942-2011)

Leo Cloutier

It is with much sadness that we report the passing of our friend Leo Cloutier on August 23rd, 3:30PM, due to complications caused by cancer, after a long and painful struggle.

Leo was a tireless supporter of the independent service industry, giving of his time and talent to many industry related causes and events. Leo was serving as NESDA Treasurer and Region 5 Director at the time of his passing. For many years Leo traveled to the ESDA summer conferences to promote the industry and to teach the CSM classes. It was our privilege to nominate Leo for membership in the Electronic Industry Hall of Fame in 2010. It was a testament to the high regard our membership held for Leo that the nomination fee was raised on the spot with individual contributions from the members. He will be missed.

Hotel Registration

The hotel is now officially The Four Points by Sheraton Peoria and at this time the on line reservation system does not yet recognise our discount code. Room reservations should be made as soon as possible by calling the hotel directly at 309-674-2500. Please use the discount code “ESDA” to qualify for the $93.00 special rate AND so we know who has registered with the hotel.

Due to issues with the hotel’s registration system, the deadline for the discounted room rate has been extended to June 30th. At this time, the issues with the hotel seem to have been corrected. We sincerely apologize to anyone who has had trouble registering with the hotel!

We have created a public calendar of events for the conference with Google Calendars that allows sharing to smart phones, PDAs etc that cab be found on the web page or by clicking here.

While a work in progress it will be the most up to date schedule information available for the conference. The next Electronic Service Dealers Association monthly meeting will be next Wednesday, May 11, 2011.

MWSC Hotel Venue Name Changed

We’ve recently learned that the Holiday Inn City Centre Hotel, where we are holding this year’s Midwest Regional Service Conference is undergoing a name change to the Four Points by Sheraton. There is no change in price for this year, and the excellent service and amenities will not change, the hotel will simply be under a different name.
